Six Feet Under—and Very Much Alive
I invite you to consider this winter story...
As the snow continues piling up outside the sliding glass door in my office, I am reminded of a poem I wrote years ago. It had been cold for a month with on-and-off snowstorms, but then we got blasted.
Nearly four feet of snow on top of the two feet that had fallen the week before.
The trees were bare. Even the grasses in the marsh were buried, and the crows that sat atop a dead tree along the property line sounded forlorn as they cawed.

It appeared frozen and desolate, and downright depressing.
As I contemplated the wasteland outside my window, my mind was suddenly drawn to what was happening beneath the snow and in the soil below.
I imagined seeds feasting on the compost I had buried in the garden before the first snow. I could almost hear them sing as tiny feelers found their way into the dense and luscious soil, just waiting for the warmth of the Spring sun.
I imagined an acorn expanding and beginning the process of feeding what would, in time, become a huge tree along the property’s edge.
I could almost see chipmunk families in their hibernation cycle: sleeping, then waking to eat their stored food before returning to sleep, their small bodies nourished in preparation for early Spring foraging.
I sensed water from melting snow making love to the earth as it trickled and seeped between the rocks, soil, and roots of the sleeping plants.
What appeared desolate to the human eye was in fact anything but. The earth was in a cycle of preparation for renewal.
It was all perfect and beautiful.
I often think about that poem in the darkness of the winter evenings, especially when it’s snowing. Catching my thoughts years ago as they are recorded in the poem has kept me hopeful during the dark times when I question my place, my worth, and even my life.
Today, I invite you to do the same. There are times you may feel lost and unsure. During those times, life can feel dark even when the sun is shining. Beneath the emotions of those hard times, things are moving, clearing, preparing you for something new and beautiful, even though you can’t see it.
You can use these times to your advantage. We have created a beautiful visioning program intended to help you gain clarity on what you would like to create for yourself.
If you are considering writing a book, I just finished creating a course called "So, You Want to Write a Book." As a self-published author whose book was picked up by a traditional publisher, I have been through it all and am sharing what I learned.
You can pick up a free chapter of my book, Let My Legacy Be Love here.
Or, if you’d like to jump right into the full story, you can pick up a full copy here.
Wishing you the best!
