The Winning Logo

Logo Design Contest

During my final semester at St. Lawrence University in Spring 2024, I had the opportunity to participate in a logo design contest organized by Close the Loop, a student-run club dedicated to promoting sustainability. Close the Loop operated a campus thrift store where students could exchange clothing or purchase items with cash. The club also embraced upcycling, giving second life to donated clothes.

That semester, the club decided to rebrand and update their logo to better reflect their mission and vision. Seeing this as a valuable opportunity to hone my skills and gain practical experience in logo design, I decided to participate in the competition.

I worked diligently, creating multiple design iterations over the course of several hours. Ultimately, I submitted two designs, hoping one might resonate with the club. To my delight, a few weeks later, I learned that one of my logos had been selected as the winner! It was incredibly rewarding to see my design featured on their social media platforms, transformed into stickers, and even printed on merchandise like shirts.

While the experience was thrilling, it wasn’t without its challenges. One of the most frustrating aspects was the lack of direct communication with the club throughout the design process. Without the ability to ask questions or gain real-time feedback, I had to rely on my intuition and research to align my designs with their goals. Despite this, I found the process of bringing my creative vision to life deeply fulfilling.

This wasn’t my first time designing a logo, but it was undoubtedly one of the most exciting. Seeing my work used in such meaningful ways reinforced my passion for graphic design and highlighted the impact of creative work in advancing sustainability initiatives.
